These days, parents often show their love and sweetness to their kids by providing them plenty of foods to eat. While that is fine for now, someday you’ll see its side effect – your kids will become obese…eventually. That’s why it’s important to know how to prepare a kid’s healthy diet as early as possible.
Not because they are still kids and are still active doesn’t mean that they actually burn the calories easily. How are they going to have a healthy eating habit when you keep giving them junk foods, soft drinks and chocolates, every single day?
Give them what a kid’s body needs. Give your kids a healthy diet.
Eating habits, especially for kids, are very important. While they are still young, start making a habit of having them eat the right foods that have the necessary nutrients that their body needs.
Here’s what you need to do to assure that your kids get a healthy diet:
1. Be their role model. Start with yourself by eating fruits and vegetables and other “good for the body” foods.
2. Ensure to have a healthy breakfast with fruits on the side. Opt for whole grains for fiber boost like breads, muffins, bagels and toast. No sugar cereals or any sugary or sweet cereal foods.
3. Make a healthy menu plan that would delight and entice your kids to eat. There are recipes out there that can alter the taste of vegetables and/ or fruits. This make the food taste like there’s no veggies or fruits on it.
4. Be creative in garnishing their foods. Most especially if they are choosy or don’t like to eat veggies at all.
5. Eat with them, tell them something good about the nutritious food they are eating. Relate to them how that food would help in their studies or in their sports or extra curricular activities.
6. Eat with the whole family.
7. Prepare a variety of foods coming from basic food groups.
8. Make a healthy substitution on your dessert. Instead of eating sweets, eat frozen fruits or fresh fruits and vegetables with dips.
9. Invite them to join you when you make their foods. Teach them how to make healthy foods like fruit salad, grilled cheese sandwich, boiled egg and vegetable salads.
10. Remove soft drinks on your fridge. Let them drink water, pure fruit juices or milk instead.
11. Instead of buying junk foods and any other sweet foods, make your own. Avoid buying commercially made foods. Bake your own recipe instead by sprinkling some nuts or raisins and not with chocolate bits.
12. Offer low-fat dairy. Like a low-fat cheese spread for their breads.
13. Drink lots of water – at least 8 glasses of water daily.
14. Pack snacks that are healthy whenever applicable – when they go to schools, parks, etc…
Giving your kids a healthy diet is one of the smartest things to do when your kids are still young. The right eating habits not only comprises of the right foods to eat, but also the right attitude and environment as well.
